On July 20, 2019 the Doddridge County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a festival in honor of one of Doddridge County’s most notable characters, Ephraim Bee. If your business or organization is interested in participating, here are a few ways in which you can be a part of the 2nd Annual Ephraim Bee Festival!
Jones-Imboden 5K Race: Ephraim Bee organized the Doddridge County militia during the Civil War. In 1863 Ephraim’s militia, along with other Union soldiers, protected the
railroad bridges in West Union from being destroyed by southern forces during the Jones-Imboden raid. The railroad bridge in West Union was saved by Captain John Carroll, who used flour barrels to trick the rebels into thinking they were cannons. Those railroad bridges still stand today and are part of the beautiful North Bend Rail Trail. Join us for a run on this historic trail.
Live Entertainment: Midnight Outlaws from 10:00 to 1:00 and Homemade Jam from 2:00 to 5:00.
Free Entertainment for Kids: We will be hosting free bounce houses and games for kids of all ages.
Food Vendors: We are looking for vendors to provide food and drinks to the spectators and participants. Since the name of Ephraim Bee’s establishment was the Bee Hive, we would love to see food vendors provide some unique foods and treats made with honey. However, this is not a requirement to be a vendor.
Product Vendors: If you have a product that fits the look and feel of our event, come sell your wares at our one-of-a-kind festival. Artisans and crafters alike are welcome, especially vendors who make honey-based products, such as soaps and lotions.
Queen Bee & Teen Bee Beauty Pageant: We will be crowning the first ever Teen Bee and the 2019 Queen Bee at this year’s festival.
Honey Tasting Contest: Calling all Beekeepers! We are looking for local and regional honey-makers to bring us your best honey for our second annual honey-tasting contest. Prizes to be announced soon.
Real Life Ministry Motorcycle Show: We are excited to announce that we've added a Motorcycle Show to our events this year. This all day event is hosted by Real Life Ministry. The registration fee is $10.00. Registration is from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and bikes will be judged at 12:00 pm. There will be prizes for first, second and third places. All proceeds will benefit the Real Life Ministry Benevolence Fund to assist the needs of our community.
Pulled Pork Contest: Fire up the smoker and hog! The Doddridge Independent is hosting their first annual Pig News & BARBECUES Pulled Pork Cook-Off. 1st place prize is $400 and a trophy, 2nd place prize is $200 and a trophy and 3rd place prize is a trophy. A $25 team/individual preregistration fee is required. More info to come soon.
Ugly Man Contest: Ephraim Bee was once voted the ugliest man in West Virginia. If you think you deserve such a title, step on stage and let us be the judge. The Doddridge County Historical Society will present the winner with a custom-made 'Ugliest Man' pocket knife.
Go Fish/Poker Run: This year we are offering something different. Bring you bicycle and join us in a fun game of Go Fish (kids) and Poker Run (adults) on the North Bend Rail Trail. Registration will be at 10:30 am at the North Bend Rails to Trails Foundation booth, Rides begin at 11:00.
We will be adding events to the schedule in the next few weeks, so please be sure to check back with us periodically. We can't wait to see you at the festival!
